a. The most important thing to consider when selecting a childbirth class is how much time is the course. A very short class (@ 4 hrs) that is supposed to teach you everything you need to know about giving birth is not going to do that. Those types of classes are usually sponsored toward an agenda. Mainly how fast you can get an epidural. It is Stork and Cradle’s belief that childbirth classes will guide you in discovering your options and empower you to make decisions.

b. Our classes teach you want you have control over and how to negotiate your care instead of just telling you what the doctors will do to you and what to expect in the hospital

c. We devote significant time to practicing mindful pain coping techniques. At the same time, there remains an open-mindedness to the compassionate use of pain medications. You will decide what is right for you.
 

The price of the childbirth, baby care, and breastfeeding classes are for a couple. Only the infant CPR class is priced per person.

 You can register at anytime by selecting any of the “select and register” buttons on the stork and cradle website or by selecting the class date on the calendar that is on the left side of the webpage.

Classes are refundable up to 4 weeks before the start of the class with an applicable $100 refund fee.

During the one day class, you will have a 45 minute lunch break from about 1:30p. There are many shops, delis, and restaurants in the area.

Breaks are given every 1 hour to 1 ½ hr during the day.

Please bring something to write notes in, snacks, and water for yourself. Dress in layers as the room may too cool or too warm for some.

If you need to miss a class unfortunately we can not offer any refunds. If a future class is not full, then special arrangements can be made to accommodate a person who missed a past class.

You will leave class with:

· Practical information for birth partners to help them understand the dos and don’ts of being in the presence of a birthing mother.

· Practices to induce relaxation during labor

· Labor comfort skills

· Communication and negotiation skills

· Pain coping skills and techniques

· Touch (massage) training to be used during labor

· Understanding the appropriate use of aromatherapy during labor

· Knowledge of the compassionate use of epidurals

· How to survive back labor

· Plan to deal with visitors (or would be) visitors after the birth of the baby

· Free full color workbook that gives you access to online videos that accompany lessons covered during class.

Ideally you should plan to take a class when you are about 30-32 weeks pregnant. Classes fill early so register when you are about 22-25 weeks pregnant. During class, you are given a booklet with access to all the information including videos online that you can review for 6 months. Don't worry about taking the class too early. The booklet will help you not forget the lessons learned in class.
